Diamond Mine slot logo

The Diamond Mine slot we’re waxing lyrical about here was unveiled in 2018 by Blueprint Gaming, the UK games supplier also known for such titles as Safari Gold, Naked Gun and their Ted online slot.

For this gem, Blueprint ponied up the readies to licence Big Time Gaming’s Megaways™ mechanic, which means a silly amount of Ways to win.

With a whole mining cart of features and a max win of £250,000 to boot, it’s worth digging deep into the game’s DNA to uncover the gleaming treasure under the surface.

Aim of the game

Ummm, win a boatload of cash maybe? Well duh. But how? Like all slots games online, this one’s about matching symbols on the reels or triggering a bonus feature. But with Megaways instead of fixed payline configurations, this slot might be a different animal to the ones you’re used to.

Make 2 or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from left to right, to win a cash prize. Thanks to Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic, there are up to 117,649 Ways to win, depending on the different layout of symbols on each reel.

How to bet

No coins and lines decisions to make here. Just pick your bet per spin and let the RNG do the rest. You can bet as little as 20p per Diamond Mine slot machine, or in increments of 40p, 60p, 80p then £1, £2, £5 and so on up to £100.

Other slots such as Rainbow Riches make you stake an amount per line, but it would be impossible to divide your stake by the number of paylines, given the randomness and the sheer number you often get in Diamond Mine. Here your stake is valid for every ‘Way’, and it’s multiplied by the coin values in the paytable.

Blueprint Gaming slots are noticeably light on buttons and settings which makes for some wonderfully simple gameplay.

You do get autoplay feature though, which lets the game to the hard graft by spinning up to 100 times without you moving a muscle. You can also choose win and loss limits which stop the autoplay.

Diamond Mine slot rules

Normally we’d launch into some effusive prose about the Diamond Mine online game features, but this online slot game is dominated by the incredible combination of Megaways and casdading reels, so let’s swot up on those first.

Invented by slot supplier Big Time Gaming, MegaWays randomises the number of symbols on each reel, with between 2 and 7 symbols always possible. This makes for wild swings in the number of paylines you’re working with on each spin. Sometimes you might get 640 Ways, sometimes over 100,000.

In-game explanation of how the Megaways reel mechanic works

Cascading Symbols

Every time you spin a winning combination, the winning symbols explode, allowing the symbols above to drop down and form new winning combinations. These chain reactions will continue until you run out of wins.

Free Spins

Spin 4 or more gold Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels and you’ll earn yourself 12 Free Spins. If you hit more than 4 Scatters, each extra one will bag you another 5 Free Spins.

Not that you’ll notice, but Scatters won’t ever appear above reels 2 to 5, but with up to 42 other reels positions to play with, you can’t complain.

Not content with just 1 twist on the normal Free Spins bonus model, Blueprint have included retriggers and unlimited win multipliers too. During the Free Spins games, you can only spin Scatters on the row at the top, with 3 landing you 5 more Free Spins and 4 Scatters giving you 10 Free Spins.

You also start Free Spins round with a multiplier of 1, and it increases by 1 with every chain reaction, and there’s no maximum multiplier, so you’ll be hoping for some serious chain reactions!

The dynamite Wild symbol only appears in the special row above reels 2 to 5, and it can substitute for all symbols except the Scatter.

You might think by keeping them up top, Blueprint Gaming have minimised the impact of Wilds in this game but remember, you can make payline combos using symbols at the very top and bottom of the reels, provided they’re on reels next to each other.

Mystery Symbol

The gunpowder barrel mystery symbol is an interesting addition to the already impressive Diamond Mine slot features. Land it and it can morph into any nearby symbol, bar the Scatter, to create a win.

One peek at the paytable and we’d forgive you for thinking the coin values are a little on the stingy side, and for a normal slot, they would be (50x for 6 Diamonds???).

But Diamond Mine is no ordinary slot, and with over 117,000 paylines on some spins, plus chain reactions, you can see how the paytable combinations can mount up. The maximum win in a single spin of our Diamond Mine slot game is £250,000 or 10,000x, whichever you’re lucky enough to hit first!

The Diamond Mine slot RTP comes in at a precise 96.43% and if you’ve played a lot of slots online in your time, you’ll know that Diamond Mine RTP is above average. And with OJOplus, you’ll also get money back on every spin, in real time. That’s cash you can use as you please, no small print.

Diamond Mine slot design

It’ll be immediately obvious to any regular slots players that this Diamond Mine slot bears more than a passing resemblance to another legendary slot, Big Time Gaming’s Bonanza.

This shouldn’t be a surprise, given the link-up between Blueprint Gaming and Big Time Gaming for this Diamond Mine game, but fortunately the 2 games are distinctive enough to warrant their place in the OJO line-up.

As it sounds, Diamond Mine is a mining themed game with a fun, cartoony vibe. Although both Bonanza and Diamond Mine are set in mines, Diamond Mine has more of a Road Runner / Acme Corporation style.

The game takes place in a red-rock desert environment with reels trussed together using wooden poles.

The Megaways counter, which displays the number of Ways active on the current spin, is an aged metal sign swinging from the top of the screen, and you can almost hear it squeaking in the wind.

The 6 reels spin rather than drop symbols down, except for the special row of 4 symbols at the top, which shunt along horizontally in the same way you see in the Bonanza and Extra Chilli slots.

Make a winning combo and the rocks behind your symbols will shatter, exploding the symbols to make way for the ones above. More on those chain reactions later on.

Blueprint Gaming went for a set of Wild West inspired symbols for their Diamond Mine online slot. The lower value Ace to 9 symbols wouldn’t be out of place in a rum-soaked saloon though there’s a hint of vintage fairground to them too.

Higher value symbols include a pair of spades, a miner’s lamp, an old prospector and a huge, shining diamond. The set is completed by a barrel of explosives that serves as the Mystery Symbol, a pack of dynamite sticks for the Wild and a sack of gold as the Scatter.

Background sound effects conjure up the hard reality of frontier mining operation; Horses neighing, spades meeting hard rock and dust flying.

That low key hubbub hardly prepares you for the madcap bluegrass banjo jingle that plays every time you spin, but there’s always the mute button if that’s not your thing!

Because of the reel layout, you’ll need to play the Diamond Mine mobile slot on landscape. The game looks fantastic on the small screen, bright and clear, and the buttons couldn’t get any simpler which is critical when you play mobile casino games.

OJO says…

Megaways fans will play my Diamond Mine slot online until the last gem is unearthed, because it’s too darn catchy! Why play 20-paylines when you can have 100,000 of ‘em? Fun, fabulous and definitely fair gaming from one of the best suppliers around. Cheers Blueprint!

Like this? Then try….

Extra Chilli! OK, we’ve spotted the similarities between Diamond Mine and Big Time Gaming’s hot slot, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a bit of fiery fun with some very similar features. Go play, chief!
