Slingo Strategies: Tips for Playing Smart and Having Fun

Slingo is an exciting combination of bingo and online slots, where the aim is to complete lines by matching the numbers on your card with the numbers shown on the spinning reel beneath it.

Like online slots, Slingo is really simple to play, with exciting bonus features such as jokers and special bonus rounds. However, it also gives you the option of playing strategically, as you can choose where to place your jokers and play extra spins.

Of course, just as with online slots, the outcome of a game of Slingo is determined by random chance. Slingo strategies won’t guarantee you success, but they can improve your chances.

How Slingo Works

Slingo Grid

At the start of any game of Slingo, you’ll be introduced to the rules and mechanics, which are important to go over before you play. The game features a 5x5 numbered grid, which looks a lot like any 75-ball bingo card, only without the free space in the middle. Each space on the grid contains a number between 1 and 75.

Slingo Paytable

To the side of the numbered grid, you’ll see the paytable, which tells you the payouts for completing lines. Just like in bingo, when you match a number with a number on your card, it will be marked off. Completing a line is known as a Slingo, and the more Slingos you complete, the higher your payout will be. A full house awards the largest possible win.

Playing Slingo

Before you play, you can adjust your bet size, which is how much you will spend per round. Each round gives you 11 spins of the reel. Press the start game button to begin, which will spin the reel below the 5x5 grid.

Slingo Symbols

Aside from numbers, the reel can also show jokers, super jokers, free spins and even blockers. Some Slingo games may also include bonus symbols, which can trigger bonus rounds.

A joker lets you pick a random number on your card in the same column as the reel it landed on. Meanwhile, super jokers give you the freedom to choose any number on your card. Blockers simply prevent a number from showing on the reels, while free spins symbols add an extra spin of the reels to your round.

What “Strategy” Means in Slingo

In Slingo, the numbers that appear on your card and on the reels are determined by random chance. Random number generator (RNG) software is used to keep the game fair, and licensed games must be independently audited.

Although outcomes in Slingo are based on random chance, it’s still possible to play strategically. You can use strategy when choosing your bet size, selecting where to add joker symbols or activating extra spins, for example.

By using strategy while playing Slingo games, you can improve your chances of success. More importantly, it’s a great way to increase your enjoyment of the game and have more fun while spending less.

Practical Tips for Playing Slingo

Know the Game You’re Playing

There are loads of fun Slingo games to enjoy, and although they all follow the same basic mechanics, there are still differences in symbols, payouts and return to player rates. Before you play, make sure you read the rules and paytable, while also looking out for any special bonus features.

Use Jokers & Super Jokers Thoughtfully

Joker symbols are a great way to increase your chances of completing a line, because you choose where they go. For example, it’s better to place a joker on a row that already has three numbered marked off, because it gets you closer to completing a Slingo. You should always choose the option that gets you closer to completing as many Slingos as possible.

Bankroll & Session Management

Before you start playing, you should set a reasonable budget for how much you’re willing to spend. Make sure that you select a sensible bet size that is in line with your budget and allows you to play without worrying about overspending. As you play, consider your profit and loss, and ensure that you’re not chasing losses or going over budget.

Extra Spins - Use with Caution

At the end of your 11 spins and any free spins you might have won, the game will allow you to play extra spins. However, these cost additional money, and the price will depend on how much you could potentially win. Although it may be tempting to play extra spins, it’s important to weigh up the cost against the potential returns.

Play Free/Demo Versions to Learn

Before playing with real money, it’s always worth trying out the free demo version if it’s available. This lets you experience the game and learn how it works without risking your own money. It’s a great way to try out the features and gain a better understanding of gameplay mechanics.

Responsible Gaming Reminder

Although you can have more fun and improve your chances while playing Slingo, there’s no magic strategy or technique that will give you guaranteed success. Like any game of chance, some days you might get lucky and other days you might not. As a result, you should always play responsibly.

Set out a budget, and use tools such as deposit limits, reality checks and time-outs to stay in control if you need help. You can also find help and resources from organisations such as GambleAware and GamStop.
