Is Cops ‘n’ Robbers the right slot for you?

I’ll say straight from the off that this Cops ‘n’ Robbers slot game is not the official Cops ‘n’ Robbers slot found in pubs across the UK when I was young (more on that later in this review).

Although it lacks the famous retro design found in other Cops ‘n’ Robbers games, it is slick, well-crafted slot that’s very easy on the eye, exactly as you’d expect from the provider better known for games like Book of Dead and Reactoonz.

This is an early effort from UK slot provider Play’n GO that was released in 2013, though you wouldn’t know it from the quality of graphics and nice little animated touches.

In terms of how to play Cops and Robbers, you can choose between 1 and 9 win lines, though why you would choose 1 is beyond me – I prefer to play the max lines but reduce the stake (responsible gaming, feel me?), giving myself more chances to win and evening out the volatility (which they say is Medium).

The return to player won’t break any records, so perhaps this isn’t a slot to get married to long term, but as we’re about to discover, the two main features both have nice twists that make Cops and Robbers more playable than it otherwise might have been.

Thankfully, given the fairly light stash of features on offer, the vault symbol that acts as the wild does have a bit more going for it. As usual, it substitutes for any other symbol except the scatter, but all wins using wilds are doubled.

This one’s a really good take on the standard free spins that I haven’t seen before. Spin 3 scatters and you’ll start a sequence of free spins where wins come more often than in the base game. The feature continues until you are either caught by the cops (in which case you keep what you’ve won) or escape (your total haul gets doubled).

My verdict

Play’n GO’s Cops and Robbers is a retro slot in more ways than one. Personally my vibe is online slot games with a bigger selection of bonus features, and it’s certainly no steal at 91% RTP. However I like the gameplay and the free spins bonus, and it’s from a provider I have a lot of time for. This particular Cops and Robbers slot machine is worth a try, albeit for short bursts as I doubt it’s got tons of mileage.
