Reel King Mega is a modern video slot that walks and talks like a classic fruit slot. Don’t expect any fancy graphics or fireworks. This is old school slots play in a more modern way.

The fusion of small base game prizes and big jackpots is also interesting. But though it’s nice to have jackpots to aim for, they’re not easy to win. The base game is really the big draw, and that means you need to be happy with smaller prizes and low volatility.

When I’m in the mood for low volatility – lots of regular wins – then a slot like Reel King Mega is a good choice. But if I want to shoot for 10,000x wins and I’m happy with the possibility that I won’t win anything, I’d look to games like Reel King Megaways (scroll down for my quick take on that game too).

Reel King bonus

The main bonus feature of Reel King Mega is the Reel King itself, a bonus that’s endlessly fun and completely different to anything else out there. In my 20 years playing and reviewing slots, there aren’t many slots features I can say that about.

Each reel position has a white or yellow background, and if you spin all-yellow reels, you trigger the Reel King who then appears on 1 or more reels. Each one will spin its own 3-reel mini slot with reels full of red, yellow and blue Sevens.

Three RED sevens = 25x

Three YELLOW sevens = 10x

Three BLUE sevens = 5x

Three MIXED sevens = 2x

Each Reel King will keep spinning until you hit a losing spin. Then it’s back to the base game.

King’s Crown and Super Symbols

These two features are brand new to the Reel King slots series, and they add a ton of entertainment value. The little crown above the reels can randomly hit a symbol to turn it wild, and because Reel King Mega is a low variance slot, this tends to happen pretty regularly.

Then there’s the Super Symbols, 2x2 sized versions of each symbol that will also appear semi regularly. Because they are twice as big, it’s essentially like spinning the same symbol in 4 adjoining positions, so it increases your chance to win.

Daily Jackpots

Like many Red Tiger slots, Reel King Mega is connected to the provider’s Daily and Progressive Jackpots.

The daily jackpot will drop just once, at any point in a 24 hour period, and can reach over £1,000. There’s also a traditional progressive – the Mega Jackpot. It isn’t timed, so it can take days or weeks to drop, though it can be £20,000 or more when it does.

Once thing to remember about Reel King Mega jackpots is that your chances of randomly triggering any of the 3 pots increase with your stake amount. That rewards players who play for higher stakes, but it’s still very hard to win, even if you’re a higher roller. So you should pick your bet size as you normally would, play safely and affordably, and treat the jackpot as an added bonus.

Though I spent most of my career working with table games and slots, I have a soft spot for the online bingo world and the game that straddles the two – Slingo. Reel King Slingo is pretty standard Slingo with the addition of a fun Reel King bonus game with up to 9 Reel Kings possible. Like Reel King Mega, it’s low cost, low variance fun.

Expert verdict

Red Tiger gives this game a 1 out of 5 for volatility and when you play this game, you’ll understand why. I don’t need any patience to play Reel King Mega, it’s just a fun ride with some great little features. It’s so fun in fact, that you don’t really care about the maximum win or the fact the RTP is not as high as it can be on non-jackpot slots.
