Famous Big Brother Housemates
It’s now been more than twenty years since big brother first appeared on our screens, and there have been hundreds of contestants in that time.
Some of these have been fairly forgettable, but there have been loads of very funny, horrible or interesting candidates that we’ll never forget.
We’ve made a list of some of the most famous Big Brother housemates over the years.
Jade Goody
Jade Goody is probably the most famous UK Big Brother contestant and was Big Brother 3’s heart and soul. While appearing on the show, she had the public, especially Graham Norton, in fits of laughter every night.
One of her most memorable moments in the house was when she had a few too many to drink and ran around naked.
Sadly, Jade passed away in her sleep in March 2009 after losing her battle with cervical cancer.
Following her tragic death, a memorial dubbed her the most-mourned celebrity of 2009, surpassing Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, and a homage to the star was broadcast on the final episode of Ultimate Big Brother.
Pete Bennet
Pete was another larger-than-life character who lit up our screens when he appeared on Big Brother 7.
Although he suffered from Tourette’s syndrome, it didn’t stop Pete from becoming a huge star and winning the series.
He would later go on to revive his music career, star in several other TV shows and start his own celebrity cleaning show.
Pete was well-known thanks to his unique character and his on-air romance with fellow housemate Nikki Grahame.
After the show, he revealed that being on Big Brother was like going to rehab, as he had an addiction to lots of different drugs at the time.
Nikki Grahame
Nikki was another Big Brother 7 housemate who became a star after her infamous diary room tantrums had viewers in fits of laughter.
Her most famous outburst in the Diary Room was the comical “WHO IS SHE?!?” regarding fellow housemate Susie Verrico.
“I can feel the venom pouring out of me as I breathe,” Nikki also said during her tantrum.
Nikki finished fifth in that series and went on to host her own show, Princess Nikki.
She was recognised as a noteworthy contestant with a National Television Award and became a regular on Big Brother’s Bit On The Side as a panellist.
Tragically, she passed away in 2021 after battling anorexia for many years.
Brian Belo
Brian, who overcame student twins Amanda and Sam Marchant in the final, was another Big Brother winner who made a great impression on the British public.
He initially suffered a lot of mocking online after admitting on the show that he’d never heard of William Shakespeare.
But he soon had the nation taking his side as his personality shone through and he was eventually voted the youngest ever winner.
Interestingly, Brian Belo had another big impact on UK reality TV as it appears he came up with the idea behind The Only Way is Essex.
Brian filed a lawsuit against the show producers in 2013 and reached a settlement outside of court, reportedly worth £1 million.
