Game features

Wilds

As in other slots you might have played, wild symbols will substitute for other paying symbols to help you form winning lines. These symbols appear across the reels and are also the highest paying in the game if you happen to land three or more on a payline.

Monster blocks

At random, some symbols may land as huge blocks, taking up more space on the reels. They're between 2x2 and 6x6, and if they land as part of a winning line, they'll split into pieces to award a payout. The payout is equal to the number of symbols that would fit into the space of the monster block.

Synced blocks

Occasionally, monster blocks may land as a question mark symbol. These will then all turn into the same symbol, increasing your chance of a big win. The synced blocks feature activates throughout the base game at random.

Coin blocks

Some monster blocks land as gold coins, which are opened up to reveal random coin values. These fall down and can be collected by a character below, although they don't always catch them. Any coins which are caught will award an instant payout.

Bonus game

Coin Blox offers two separate bonus games. For the first one, you'll need key symbols to trigger. Land five or more keys anywhere on the reels on a single spin, and you'll be transported to a new stage. In this stage, you unlock wins by landing coins and can unlock further stages with bigger rewards by landing more keys. The number of spins you get is set by the number of keys you landed to trigger the feature.

I was lucky enough to trigger this bonus feature while playing the game, and while I only got to the second level, I still managed to land some big coins. There are four levels in total, with the top level offering coin sizes worth up to 5,000x your bet.

Free spins

The second bonus game in Coin Blox is the classic free spins round. You can unlock it by landing five or more lighter symbols on a single spin. These are scatters, so they can be anywhere on the reels. Whilst playing, I was lucky enough to trigger this bonus by landing a monster lighter symbol.

During this bonus round, you'll find that synced blocks and coin blocks trigger more frequently. Not only that, but coin sizes are bigger, and for each additional lighter, you'll earn an extra free spin. I didn’t manage to add extra spins, but I hit some nice wins thanks to the giant synced blocks.

My verdict

Coin Blox might be my new favourite slot. While the high volatility could be a little unforgiving for some, the sheer number of bonus features makes it a lot of fun to play. Monster symbols show up frequently, so even if you don't get lucky with one of the bonus rounds, there's still plenty of potential. Aside from that, I really love the creative style of the game and the excellent animations and characters that bring it to life.
