Cluster Pays

Landing a win on the Retro Sweets game grid occurs when matching symbols land connected (clustered) to each other in vertical and/or horizontal directions. When a win results, the clustered symbols disappear and symbols from above fall into the empty spaces. This may result in another win, or a sequence of wins until the cascading reels stop producing a winning cluster. My longest cluster streak was 6 in a row from a single spin.

Personally, my favourite slots to play are those with the Cluster Pays (also called cascade, tumble, avalanche) mechanic. What’s even better is that many games with this mechanic are also Megaways slots, giving you up to hundreds of thousands of ways to win.

Wild & Special Symbols

There are a few special symbols in Retro Sweets than you can land if luck is smiling on you, including two wild symbols and two instant prize symbols.

• Wild Candy Symbol – Doubling as the Scatter symbol, the Wild Candy symbol has a starting 1x multiplier value attached to it. Every time this symbol is a part of a cluster win, its multiplier value increases by 1.

• Wild Multiplier Symbol – This symbol has a multiplier value attached to it (1x, 2x, 3x, or 5x) and will distribute its multiplier value to all Wild Candy symbols in view on the game grid. After being distributed, the Wild Multiplier symbols turn into a random Instant Prize symbol.

• Instant Prize Symbol – These symbols are bet multipliers that carry a value anywhere from 1x up to 1,000x. If Instant Prize symbols form a cluster of 5 or more, a win is paid out.

• Instant Prize Multiplier Symbol – When this symbol lands (and you’ll want it to!) it multiplies any Instant Prize symbol(s) in view by its value (2x, 5x, or 10x) and then turns the symbol(s) into an Instant Prize symbol of random value.

Sweet Collector Symbol

This is another special symbol – and arguably the most special of them all. When it lands, a paying symbol is selected at random and attracts between 4 and 9 symbols of the same kind. Once a cluster is created, the Sweet Collector symbol transforms into the symbol it attracted. The result – you guessed it – an automatic cluster win.

What makes the Sweet Collector symbol really awesome is that it doesn’t just attract regular paying symbols. It attracts Wild Candy Symbols and Instant Prizes as well, which means that it can transform into a random Instant Prize symbol.

Cluster Link

Cluster Link is a unique feature in Retro Sweets that triggers instant wins when a certain number of Instant Prizes cluster together on the game grid. It’s possible for clusters to chain together with enhancements to build wins.

Free Spins Feature

Like all my favourite slots online, the Retro Sweets slot machine has a free spins feature. It’s triggered when 3 or more Wild Candy symbols land anywhere on the reels. The number you land determines the number of Retro Sweets free spins you get (3 Wild Candies – 6 spins, 4 Candies – 8 spins, 5 Candies – 10 spins, 6 Candies – 12 spins). I triggered it twice during my playing session and got 6 spins the first time and 10 the next.

No matter the number of free spins you score, the Wild Candy symbols and Instant Prizes from the base game will stay put in their position and carry over to the free spins bonus feature.

During the Free Spins feature, each empty symbol position will spin through to land on one of these symbols:

• Wild Candy symbol (+2 free spins are awarded)

• Wild Multiplier symbols

• Instant Prize symbols

• Instant Prize Multiplier symbols (sticks to the reels)

• Extra Spin symbol (1 or 2 free spins are awarded and the symbol turns into an Instant Prize symbol)

• Sweet Collector symbol (A random number of non-clustering symbols are selected and are attracted to the Sweet Collector symbol position. Wild Candy and Instant Prize symbols can also be attracted)

• Blank symbol (doesn’t stick to reels)

Any Instant Prize symbol that lands during the feature will stick in position until the free spins bonus round is over. All Instant Prize symbol clusters are calculated at the end of the feature.

Push Bet & Bonus Buy

Push Bet

You have two options for the Push Bet feature, and both increase your chances of landing bigger wins and/or the free spins feature. One costs 2x your bet per spin and guarantees that at least 1 Wild Candy symbol will land. The other costs 4x you bet per spin and guarantees 2 Wild Candy symbols.

Bonus Buy

If you want to directly buy your way into the Retro Sweets free spins feature, you have two choices. You can buy the Normal Feature for 120x your bet, where you’ll land a minimum of 3 (up to 6) Wild Candy symbols. There is also the Super Feature option, which costs 400x your bet. Buying the super feature guarantees a minimum of 3 (up to 6) Wild Candy symbols and a Wild Multiplier symbol of random value.

Personally, I prefer to take my chances triggering special features organically within the game. But if you want to use the Push Bet or Bonus Buy features, just remember that there’s no guarantee you’ll win big or that you’ll break even. My verdict
