Online Roulette Games: Live Dealer & RNG Tables

Despite the epic rise of slots, online roulette is still one of the most popular games at casinos across Canada, and for good reason.

Roulette is a numbers game with an impressive range of bets and payout odds, with results determined by a ball that spins around the wheel before dropping into a numbered pocket. Roulette games are slower than slots or blackjack - casino games that can be over in seconds. With no skill required, and super simple outside bets like red or black, it’s ideal for beginners. But exotic Special bets like Orphelins and complex roulette systems like d’Alembert make the game attractive to experts too.

The online roulette universe has zipped light years ahead recently, with roulette games like Mega Fire Blaze Roulette adding massive win multipliers and TV-grade hosts to a centuries-old game.

Whether you’re after simple RNG computer roulette like European Roulette Pro, or the latest Live Roulette games, you’ll find the perfect roulette table at PlayOJO.

How Roulette Works

Roulette is an easy to game to play straight away – just pick one or more numbers, place your bet and wait for dealer to spin the wheel and release the ball.

Roulette wheels have 37 or 38 numbered pockets, depending on the variant. Odd numbers are red, evens are black. European and French roulette tables have one green zero, while American roulette has a double zero too.

Bets are placed on the roulette table, with single numbers and other ‘Inside’ bets located inside the main grid, and ‘Outside’ bets like red or black located… well you can guess where.

Once the ball lands, the dealer or software will confirm the result and pay out bets. Then the betting reopens and play starts all over again.

Roulette Variants & House Edges

European Roulette

Want a classic roulette online experience? Play European roulette. With most variants based on its rules, this game’s the top pick among Canadians. The European roulette wheel features 37 pockets and a single zero pocket, carrying a house edge of 2.70%.

American Roulette

American roulette features zero and double zero pockets on its spin wheel, giving it the highest house edge (5.26%) of any roulette game type. Even so, for American roulette fans, it’s the most exciting variant. OJO’s got standard, high roller, and VIP tables.

French Roulette

Looking for the roulette online variant with the lowest house edge? French roulette is the one to play! It’s just 1.35% for even money bets, thanks to its unique “La Partage” rule - place even money outside bets and if the ball lands on zero, you get half your bet back. GVG’s French Roulette Pro is a good place to start.

Bet Types & Odds

One of the big draws of roulette is the good choice of bets and payout odds. As well as 37 single numbers with payout odds of 35 to 1, there are many different combinations, from 2-number ‘Splits’ at 17 to 1, right down to 12-number ‘Columns’ which pay 2 to 1.

If you already know your basic roulette bets well and fancy something different, check out the Special section or the Racetrack. There you’ll find unusual bets like ‘Neighbours’ that let you cover whole sections of the wheel with one finger tap.

Live roulette games like Lightning Roulette involve random multipliers and can pay up to 500x for single numbers.

Betting at our real money online roulette tables starts from just $0.20, though high rollers can enjoy table with much higher table stakes.

Popular Roulette Strategies

Some players like to bet on their birthday date. Others just spread the chips around randomly. And some like to follow roulette systems. Even though roulette strategies won’t make a profit in the long run, they can add a bit of structure and fun to a session, as long as you follow them safely and bet only what you’re happy to lose.

Martingale roulette strategy

The Martingale roulette strategy is arguably the most well known. Start by betting 1 unit (your minimum bet) and double your bet each time you lose. If you win, return to your minimum bet and begin the process again.

Fibonacci Sequence strategy

The Fibonacci roulette strategy uses the Fibonacci sequence of numbers (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc.) to determine your next bet. You start at 1, if you lose, you move up one number in the sequence. If you win, you move back two numbers.

D’Alembert Roulette Strategy

The D’Alembert is considered the least risky of the three roulette strategies. You increase or decrease your stake by 1 depending on the outcome. For instance, if you bet $5 and lose, increase your next bet to $6. If you bet $6 and win, decrease your bet to $5.

Labouchere Strategy

Think of this as roulette with a bit of maths and a bit of patience. You start by writing down a sequence of numbers (your target profit), then bet the sum of the first and last numbers. Win? Cross them off. Lose? Add your bet to the end of the sequence.

It’s a slower, more controlled system than Martingale, but it can get complicated if your losing streak grows. It’s one for players who enjoy a bit of structure without going all-in every spin.

James Bond Strategy

Named after 007 himself, this strategy is all about covering a huge portion of the table with one spin. You split your bet across high numbers, a column, and a single number — meaning you’re backing most outcomes.

It won’t land you big payouts, but it keeps the action steady and gives you a shot at frequent wins. Ideal if you prefer broad coverage and a low-risk, low-reward life.

*No matter the roulette strategy you might use, no win is ever guaranteed. The house always has an edge. Outcomes at PlayOJO Canada are 100% random and based entirely on luck. Please never chase your losses. Play responsibly.
