What we think about the Big Bass Splash slot
“Hooking the free spins feature in this game is the best part!”
Is the Big Bass Splash slot for you?
If you’ve played Big Bass Bonanza or any of the other Pragmatic slots in the Big Bass series, you’re likely to feel right at home playing the Big Bass Splash game. If not, here’s the lowdown of what to expect from the experience. The Big Bass Splash online slot has a fishing/cowboy theme and is equipped with 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines. It’s got an upbeat soundtrack and water sound effects, including a “bloop” sound that accompanies each reel landing after a spin.
Fully submerged in an aqua lake, the reels feature cartoonish graphics. There’s everything from a fishing pole, tackle box and fish to a cheerfully bearded fisherman and his monster truck (…because who doesn’t go fishing without their monster truck?). While the fish symbols also act as Money symbols, the game’s main attraction is its Free Spins feature, which can include modifiers to spice up the action. Big Bass Splash is a high volatility slot with a max win of 5,000x the bet.
I played the Big Bass Splash slot Canada version at OJO’s online Canadian casino for $3.00 per spin. That said, the lowest bet in this version is $0.10 and the highest is $50.00. Though the max bet might not appeal as much to high rollers as other games, do keep in mind that this is a high volatility slot, so there’s a good chance of meaty wins when they land, but don’t expect them to land too often. In other words, careful not to sink your bankroll.
In case you’ve been wondering about the main difference between the Big Bass Bonanza and Big Bass Splash slots – essentially, the latter has more bonus features and offers bigger wins (up to 5,000x the stake) than its predecessor (up to 2,100x).
Bottom line, if you like any slots in Pragmatic’s Big Bass series, this game is a fun one. If you don’t or you’re not into fishing-themed slots, chances are you’re not likely to be smitten with this one either. The main event in Big Bass Splash is its Free Spins feature. It’s triggered by landing a minimum of 3 Fish Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. Landing 3 scatters gives you an automatic 10 free spins, landing 4 will get you 15 spins, and 5 will give you 20 spins.
Before the Big Bass Splash Free Spins round starts, between 0 and 5 modifiers can randomly be lassoed into the feature. These include:
- More Fish – Extra Fish Money symbols land on the reels during the subsequent round.
- More Fisherman – More Fisherman Wild symbols land on the reels in the subsequent round.
- More Dynamites, Hooks and Bazookas – During the round, there’s a higher chance to hit dynamite, hook or bazooka spin features.
- Start From Level 2 – You start the free spins round from level 2.
- +2 Spins – You get 2 more free spins to start and if you retrigger more spins during the feature, you’ll get 2 more added for every retrigger.
Regardless of the modifier(s) you may or may not get, during the Free Spins round, each Fisherman Wild symbol that lands on the screen when Fish Money symbols are present will collect the money. To make things even more interesting, every fourth Fisherman Wild symbol that lands during a round, retriggers the feature, awarding 10 more free spins. What’s more, the multiplier for the Fish Money symbol collection increases with each subsequent level (2x for level 2, 3x for level 3, and 10x for level 4).
Dynamites, Hooks and Bazookas modifier feature – If a Fisherman Wild lands with no money symbols present at the end of a free spin, the Dynamite feature can randomly trigger, and Fish Money symbols can appear in random positions. If a Fisherman Wild lands with no money symbols present at the end of a free spin, a bazooka animation can pop up at random and change all symbols on the screen (except for the Fisherman Wild). If there are fish symbols on the screen but no Fisherman at the end of a free spin, a hook can randomly appear and pull a random reel up to bring fisherman symbols onto the screen.
For me, the Big Bass Splash free spins is the most fun part of the game. When I played, I triggered the Free Spins feature twice. Both times I landed 3 scatters. At the start of the first feature, I lassoed 2 modifiers (“Start from Level 2” and “+2 Spins”). During the 12 spins, I landed a total of 5 Fish Money symbols with the 2x multiplier applied. The second time I triggered the feature, I lassoed the “More Fisherman” modifier and started at level 1 with 10 free spins. I landed 4 Fish Money symbols during the first free spins round and enough fisherman symbols that I retriggered the feature, making it to the second level. This scored me 10 more spins and the 2x multiplier. During the level 2 round, I landed 3 more Fish Money symbols with the 2x multiplier.
Buy Free Spins
If you don’t want to trigger the Big Bass Splash free spins organically, you can buy them. This will guarantee you trigger the free spins round and either 3, 4 or 5 scatters will hit at random. However, it will cost you 100x your current total bet (the reason I didn’t buy it when I played), so make sure it’s a budget-friendly option for you if you should decide to purchase free spins.

Big Bass Bonanza
If you like the Big Bass Splash slot machine, the original is certainly worth a spin. In Big Bass Bonanza, the game that started the series, you have the chance to catch Green Fish to reel in cash prizes, or you can collect Wilds to fill up the meter to hook an up to 10x Multiplier and Free Spins.
Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways
It’s not just Pragmatic that offers classic fishing-themed games. Blueprint’s Fishin’ Frenzy is another popular one. This particular version of the game – Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways – adds to what made the original slot great (wild substitutions, free spins and multipliers) with up to 15,625 ways to win.
Feel like swimming with much bigger fish? Take a bite out of Razor Shark. From Push Gaming, this online slot is flooded with features like Mystery Stacks, an Instant Bet Multiplier and a Nudge and Reveal. It also gives you the chance to win over 50,000x the stake.
The Pragmatic Play Big Bass Splash slot isn’t a clone to Big Bass Bonanza, but so little of the theme and gameplay has changed that I feel Big Bass Splash is lacking in uniqueness overall. Still, despite its similarities, it turned out to be fun to play, with the multi-level and modifier-enriched free spins feature being the real catch of the game. It’s this feature – and the higher max win amount (5,000x) - that I think kicks this slot up a notch on the fun scale compared to the original.
