Choose Your Blackjack Strategy
Blackjack is a unique mix of skill and luck, which means there's an element of strategy to the game that you can play around with.
Here are OJO's tips for a good basic blackjack strategy:
Stand on 17 or higher: It's very unlikely you'll do better
Hit on a hard total of 11 or less: You're more likely to get a better hand and you cannot bust
Double down on a 10 or 11: This is an easy shot at a better hand, with zero chance of busting
Split Aces and 8s: Land 10s on these cards will result in great hands that could potentially beat the dealer
Blackjack Rules
The rules of online blackjack are so easy, you can pick them up in seconds. If you've never played before or need a reminder, OJO's here to show you how it works.
Blackjack Card Values
In blackjack, cards are given a points value, which you use to calculate your hand total. The cards 2 to 10 have face value (ie. a 2 is worth 2 points), face cards (ie. Jack, Queen, King) are worth 10, and the Ace is worth 1 or 11, your choice.
The Goal of Blackjack
The main aim of the game is to get a hand total as close to 21 as possible to beat that of the dealer, without exceeding (called going bust or busting). If you get any Ace and 10 point card, that's called Blackjack and is the highest value hand in the game.
How Blackjack Gameplay Works
Once you've placed your initial bet and clicked the deal button, two cards will be dealt to both you and the dealer: yours will be face up, while only one of the dealer's will be face up. You'll then get to choose from the following options:
Hit: Take an additional card, a good move if you have a low hand total
Stand: Stick with the cards you've got, essential if you're sitting on 21
Split: Turn a pair of cards into two separate hands by dealing a new card to each
Double Down: Get just one extra card for doubling your bet, worth considering for strong hands
When you're happy with your hand, the dealer will hit or stand, then their final hand will be revealed. If your hand total is higher than theirs, you win, amigo!
Blackjack Online FAQ
How does online blackjack work?
Online blackjack is a simple card game played against the dealer, with the aim of getting a hand total as close to 21 as possible to beat the dealer's hand without exceeding. Both you and the dealer are dealt two cards (one of theirs face down), you'll get to choose whether to hit, stand, double down, or split, and the dealer will get to hit or stand. Whoever has the highest hand total without going bust wins.
