The votes have been counted and the results are in! We had a huge response from the British public (you lot) who made the effort to vote for your fave TV soap extra and in turn bring some of that lovely fairness into someone’s life. And so… we are happy to announce that the winner of the PlayOJO Soap Extra of the Year Award goes to… Colin Murtagh!

A massive congrats goes out to Colin who is finally getting some recognition for his hard work and talent. Col has appeared in more film and TV features than you’ve had Spina Coladas and his talents certainly don’t end there. When he’s not on set, our fave Extra spends his time taking care of other supporting actors and extras, booking and supporting them through their own TV and film careers. What a champ!

Our award winner has featured in a number of the UK’s favourite soaps, including Hollyoaks, Holby City, Coronation Street and Casualty. Most likely to be found playing a copper in the soaps, Col’s experience goes way beyond the boys in blue. From zombies, thugs and blood drenched battlers, Colin can swiftly transform into just about any character type. Just check out some of his more memorable contributions below.  Warning: some readers might find some of following images slightly terrifying:

It’s the man who won the hearts of the British public. The trusty policeman we know and love.

Colin Murtagh_Thug on The Last Dragonslayer

But our Colin also makes for a very convincing thug on “The Last Dragonslayer”.

Colin Murtagh_Biker Zombie on Shed of the Dead.

Ahhhh! Bloomin scary looking zombie biker in comedy horror film “Shed of the Dead”.

Where do these man’s talents end? Ready for battle on the set of historic drama, “Rebels”.

Colin Murtagh_zombie policeman

When policeman meets zombie…Colin’s two worlds collide on the set of zombie apocalypse film, “Immune”.

A big well done Colin. You truly deserve this recognition and we look forward to seeing which alter ego you’ll pull out next! OJO and out!
