The study by PlayOJO looked at the backgrounds of the world’s highest-earning celebrities - all aged under 30 - to see how likely they were to make it big, based on their gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, place of birth and place of residence, education and birth month.

Each celebrity was assigned a percentage similarity score, which reveals how closely their backgrounds matched up to that of Forbes’ ideal entrepreneur. This ideal entrepreneur profile was based on demographic data pulled from the last five years' 30 Under 30 lists, looking specifically at those who work in entertainment, sports, music and social media.

Self-Made Celebs: Entrepreneurial Odds was created by online bingo and casino site PlayOJO to reveal what the world’s ideal entrepreneur looks like, based on the gender, age, location, ethnicity, nationality, birth month and education of those featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 lists over the last five years. The study looked at the background of celebrities featured in the following categories of each 30 Under 30 list: Hollywood & Entertainment, Sports, Social Media and Music.

Using this data and the parallels drawn over the past five years, the study also looked at the backgrounds of the highest-earning musicians, actors, social media influencers and sports stars (aged under 30) to assign them a percentage similarity score, based on how closely their background matched that of the ideal Forbes entrepreneur.

Finally, the study also looks at key demographic data across England to assign a percentage similarity score to each region, based on gender, age, birth month and ethnicity splits. Sources used in the analysis included Forbes 30 Under 30 Lists (2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017), Social Blade, Office for National Statistics and GOV.UK.
