You may have read the news this week that a lovely alpaca named Geronimo has been sentenced to death. Well, here at PlayOJO we think he deserves another shot so we’re joining the thousands of people up and down the country that are protesting against Geronimo’s fate.

That’s why on Thursday 12th August, we took two alpacas up to Parliament Square. We wanted to make our voice heard and protest against the decision as we look to save our friend Geronimo.

What  is Geronimo’s story?

Geronimo has twice tested positive for bovine tuberculosis since arriving in the UK back in 2017. As a result, the government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has ordered for the alpaca to be put down.

However, Geronimo tested negative for the disease four times back in New Zealand. And his owner believes the newer methods of testing in this country have returned false positives.

Helen Macdonald, who looks after Geronimo on a farm in Wickwar near Bristol, believes the eight-year-old is healthy. She has called on the government to retest her beloved alpaca to give him a fair chance – and we fully support her.

What have we done  to help Save Geronimo?

More than 100,000 people have signed a petition to save Geronimo and campaigners took part in a march on Downing Street earlier this week. We wanted to show our support as well so, along with two alpacas, we staged our own protest in Parliament Square.

With the help of Albert and Otis from Woodbine Farm in Lutton, we publicly supported our friend Geronimo in his unfair life-threatening battle. As the fair online Casino and Bingo site, we stand with the rest of the nation. And we have made it our mission to challenge unfair TB testing. We live in hope that Defra will give Geronimo a fair chance to prove he hasn’t got TB.

What’s it got to do with us?

At PlayOJO, not only are we passionate about righting wrong situations, but we also have a soft spot for alpacas. Two of the loveable creatures, Ben and Jerry, featured in our TV advertising campaign back in 2018.

The ad centered on a sad alpaca that had been treated badly by other casinos. But then he found PlayOJO! An online casino that is transparent, fair and offers cash bonuses that come with no wagering requirements whatsoever. The sad alpaca truly got his OJO back!

Peter Bennett, Head of Brand at PlayOJO said: “As the fair online Casino and Bingo site and a brand that has a fond love for alpacas, we felt it was important to raise awareness of Geronimo’s plight and hopefully give a fair chance to have another shot to prove he hasn’t got TB.”
