The Great British Bake Off 2019

The ultimate baking battle has returned for its 9th series today (27th August) and we’re getting ready for some very tasty viewing. The Great British Bake Off has become quite the national treasure over the 9 years, giving us many hours of quality TV as we follow the trials and tribulations of our budding baking contestants . Presented by Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding, our keen bakers will be set weekly baking challenges for 10 weeks to wow the judges, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. And fans of the show can all agree that there has been no shortage of memorable moments.

Top 5 Unforgettable GBBO Moments

#5 Strudel Throw. Cathryn Dresser took aiming high to a whole new level whilst kneading her strudel dough. A slap, stretch and toss quickly turned into a full catapult launch of the dough which ended up with a slap to the floor. Nothing that the 5-second rule couldn’t fix, right Cathryn?

#4 The Victory Speech. Nadiya, winner of Season 6 won our hearts with a victory speech that had Mary Berry in tears and she has since been named as one of the 500 most influential people in the UK. We love you Nadiya.

#3 The Cake Drop. I suppose it was only a matter of time before this happened on the show and series 2’s clumsy Robert Billington was just the guy for the job when his chocolate cake slid onto the floor at the last hurdle. Still Mary Berry’s fave cake of the series though.

#2 The Tower Topple. Everything was looking so good for series 4’s Frances Quinn as she put the finishing touches to her biscuit tower. That was until presenter Mel Giedroyc accidentally pushed it over while measuring it. Frances did end up winning the series, so no permanent damage done.

#1 Bingate. The case of Iain Watters’ melted Baked Alaska caused such a stir that it even featured on the BBC. Fellow contestant Diana had removed the cake from the freezer on the particularly hot day long enough to ruin the ice-cream dessert. Iain lost it, sending the cake straight into the bin and stormed offset never to return.
